That’s right, Valve’s long-rumoured Steam hardware is due in 2014, with prototypes of Valve’s own devising shipping to a select 300 later this year. All of them will run SteamOS , and they will come from multiple hardware makers.
Other than that, there aren’t really many details – there will be a wide array of form factors and specs for 2014, but other than that? Very little.
On the plus side, it’s clear that a driving force of this scheme is openness. SteamOS is open source, and you can install any OS you like on the Steam Machines.
