Postcards From Far Away: Two Weeks in Windfall, 5th to 18th July

image
Hello again everyone! It’s good to be back. I’m still in America, but I’m back staying in a place with a solid WiFi connection, which means the show can continue! With the show being a written Animal Crossing diary. Ahem.

Anyway, because we missed last week, this week’s Postcards is a thrilling double bill filled with buildings, broken economies, love and Nook’s plan to oust me advancing at an alarming rate. Let’s go!

Friday

If you remember, two weeks ago I finished building the museum extension, so the first thing that happened this week was a celebration!
image
Pop.
image

There’s also a new shop being built. Unfortunately I knew what it was from visiting someone else’s town, which kind of ruined the surprise. Half of the fun of Animal Crossing is the expansion of the town, which most of the time is a mystery to you until the building work is finished. New Leaf also has things that aren’t surprises, like the Dream Suite and Club, but that comes with the mayoring feature, so I guess I can let it slide.
image
The museum now has a staircase at the back.
image
At the top is a little shop that Celeste staffs. Celeste ran the Museum Observatory in Wild World (no prizes for figuring out the pun in her name) so it’s nice to see her return.
image
The upper floor of the museum is used to display your own custom exhibits and, like everyone else on the internet, I’ve used it to display the Nintendo items.
image
Celeste also sells the silver tools this time around, so I bought this.

Saturday

Today was Mira’s birthday! I got her a present, but I can’t remember what it was.
image
It was a pretty poor turnout for Mira, and I felt kind of bad for her. Pate had no such qualms, since the coolest people in town were there.
image
Label had a bear hat for sale. No need to say anything more.
image
The shop opened, and as expected, it was Kicks. Kicks is, fairly obviously, a shoe shop.
image
It’s a bit pokey inside, but the cockney skunk that the store is named after is welcoming enough.
image
I bought some fancy boots.
image
I finally finished paying off my third expansion. I hadn’t really bothered about it until now, just because I had town projects to build.
image
And straight back into debt. Damn it, Nook.
image
K.K. dropped by to do an acoustic set. He played Bubblegum K.K. and it was lovely.
image
I love watching Dr. Shrunk in the background. He’s the biggest idiot.
image
The songs that K.K. gives you have album artwork now, which I love. This game is full of tiny little things that alone don’t seem like much, but together make the world feel alive.
image

Sunday

I got a new item from the fortune cookies: a Triforce!
image
It even does the Link To The Past title screen animation, with the music. I love it.
image
Pietro wanted to leave again. I’ve begun to think that this could be because of Ankha, or more specifically, he thinks he’s not good enough for her. Speaking of the Ankha x Pietro love story, Joey mentioned them to me the other day as making a cute couple, although he then made sure to clarify that they weren’t. Pietro also sang a love song he’d written to Savannah. He said he was inspired by ‘all the cute girls in town’ but we all know exactly who he means, right, ladies and gentlemen? If you were to ask me, I reckon Pietro was going to ask Ankha out by singing her that song, but chickened out and tried to leave town. Maybe next time, buddy.
image
My house now has a second floor.
image
It started pretty grim.
image
This was suggested by one of my villagers: if you give Cyrus a K.K. album, 3000 bells and a giant clam shell, he’ll make a music box.
image
Even Shrunk had love (or Pietro’s lack of it) on his mind.
image
I streetpassed my first Animal Crosser today. (Despite living in her house and street passing her every day for Mii Plaza, Libby has refused to turn on streetpass for Animal Crossing). He’s just a little bit creepy.
image
As is his house. I did order the game table and drinks machine he had from the kiosk outside his house, though.
image
This is the finished music box.
image
And what it looks like at home.
image
It turns out Ankha used to be a star singer. Maybe this is why Pietro was worried he wouldn’t impress her?
image

Monday

The Nooklings’ shop is closing again. I wasn’t aware I’d bought that much to make it upgrade, but I’m not complaining.
image
They held a sale but they weren’t selling anything interesting.
image
Aha, a present for Pietro! I see a plan forming.
image
I’ll send him a letter, but sign it from Ankha! It’s foolproof.

image

At least, I hope it is. Shrunk seems to think I’ve made an error.
image
Pate has started calling me ‘dumpling’. Nook has even got to him, now. I guess ‘dumpling’ is mob code for a fat cat sitting duck or something similar. Anyway, I won’t let Nook get to me. I own this town.
image
Joey is a rebel now.
image
Jesus Christ, Kapp’n. That’s disgusting.
image
The journey back was significantly deeper than the trip there.
image
The island has completely and utterly broken New Leaf’s economy. Half an hour on the island and I can make this much money.
image
image
image
Naturally, this lets me do this far more often.
image
And hence get into even more debt with this scumbag.
image

Tuesday

At least my upper floor is bigger now.
image
Pietro saw through my foolproof plan. I guess he’s no fool.
image
True to their word, the Nooklings are upgrading.
image
Sahara visited again and made my house a pink desert.
image
I bought a painting off Redd yesterday and, thankfully, it turned out to be real. I didn’t even have to Google it (because I know the real painting from that Coldplay album).
image
I also got a balloon bed. I’m afraid that’s it for Wednesday, I was kind of busy visiting Universal Studios.
image

Wednesday

Super T&T.
image

I was kind of busy today, too, I’m afraid. Luckily, we’ve still got another week and a day of diary before we wrap up!

Thursday

Oh. OH. OH.
image
Everything I know is a lie. I guess I’m going to be crucified by the trans community now. At least now I can fight them off, if it comes to it.
image
Turns out Sabel is really into her soaps.
image
She likes a good love story. I think she might be hinting something. Oh, if only there were an, ‘I love you,’ button.
image
Blathers is in a tizz again. He wants me to help out old Brewster, again a returning character from Wild World.
image
I’d love to, Blathers!
image
I shouldn’t be allowed to enter text in boxes.
image
image
And it is done. Broken economy.

Friday

And here we are! It’s quite pretty.
image
The inside’s nice too.
image
You can talk with the people sitting down and they will tell you how they like their coffee.
image
Brewster gives me my first coffee. It’s quite tasty.
image
Seriously, somebody stop me. I’m not even funny.
image
I finished another dinosaur.
image
That’s it at the bottom.
image
I bought some punk socks because I’m a big idiot.
image
And a new dress because I like the girl’s run cycle.
image

Saturday

Tortimer was in the coffee shop this morning.
image
Phineas seems to be giving me a gentle hint to stop playing. Never!
image
I played hide and seek again, this time with Bertha, Savannah and Joey. I nearly lost, which would’ve been embarrassing considering I would have had to diarise it.
image
NEW SHOP KLAXON. I don’t know what this one is, either.
image
Ooh, a Metroid. Better make sure it doesn’t escape.
image
The silver watering can is exactly what I need. It waters all the squares in direct contact with the one watered.
image
I got two more streetpasses today. First up, Michael.
image
His house is an absolute mess. I am unimpressed.
image
Next, Joshua.
image
His house is much nicer, although still Nintendo focused. I think a lot of people do this because the Nintendo stuff is really cool, but it makes for a lot of generic houses.
image
His upstairs has balloon stuff, which is more interesting.
image
I am a satsuma, god damn it.
image
I discovered this today: you can emote in front of Isabelle and she’ll react. If you use the ‘glee’ emote, she’ll sing with you. I love her so much.
image
We had a delayed opening ceremony for the coffee shop, because I forgot to do it the day it opened.
image
Can’t touch this.
image
Another streetpass! This guy has stolen my name.
image
Now this house is more like it.
image
His upper floor has obviously just been expanded, hence why all his stuff is in the middle of the room.
image
ONE HUNDRED AND EIIIGHTYYYY.
image

Sunday

The new shop is still being built.
image

I bought a Jester’s mask because it looks like that one enemy from SMB2.
image
Teeheehee.
image
Another finished dino.
image
This one is actually a bit scary.
image

Olivia now greets everyone like a chav.
image
This emote pretty much sums up my antics.
image
Nintendo also sent me a slush puppy maker.
image

Monday

Look, just hurry up and open.
image
And the T Rex is done.
image
HOW HORRIFYING.
image
WAAAARIO.
image

Tuesday

Shampoodle!
image
Harriet is a lovely character. She’s sweet and doesn’t judge you when you want to get a girl’s haircut.
image
My new edgy haircut. It fits well with the tache.
image
Libby demanded she visit to get a haircut. We both ended up with the same hair colour.
image
Damn straight.
image
Savannah and Libby were matching. The same shirt and the same umbrella design!
image

Wednesday

Yummy.
image
Gulliver appeared in my town again.
image
Silly sod was trying to get to Belgium. Somebody get that bird a map.
image
WHO PUT THAT THERE JESUS IT SCARED THE CRAP OUT OF ME
image
That’s my expanded second floor paid off. You won’t fool me into sinking deeper into debt, Nook!
image
Buggery.
image

Thursday

Room expansion!
image
Katrina seems to be suggesting that she wants an observatory in town.
image
I UPGRADED MY GARDENER BADGE YES YES YES. I AM THE FLOWER KING.
image
What is this, GTA: San Andreas?
image
Hero boots are pretty nice.
image
My Nintendo exhibition is shaping up really well.
image
Joey requested a hammock.
image
Your wish is my command, oh child of Windfall.
image

And we finish this week with Kapp’n taking me on a voyage, while singing about bugs that smell. The bloody weirdy beardy.
image
And that’s the last two weeks! This took forever to write, so I hope you stuck it through to the end. Even if you didn’t, I love you all. Flower update time!
