I’ll confess, I’m a bit of a sucker for a good doujin (indie) fighter. Melty Blood is one of the finest 2D fighters around, and even when a doujin fighter turns out awful, they’re almost always interesting, like the hilariously stupid Les Misérables-based Arm Joe.
Vanguard Princess is the latest entry into this genre, and unless I’m mistaken, one of the first to be officially localised, courtesy of publisher eigoMANGA. Plus, it looks pretty cool!
The game boasts 10 playable characters and both Story and Versus modes, with the story following a young girl traumatised by government experiments performed upon her, vowing to destroy humanity in retaliation, the rest of the cast are tasked with stopping her.
The story sounds a little bare bones, but the combat looks pretty sharp, and hey, the game is out right now! You can buy it at Amazon, Gamersgate and CNET for $5, and the localised version contains enhanced visuals and features absent from the original release. For those of you unsure about buying it, there’s a free demo available.
I’m interested in checking this one out, it looks like a lot of fun.
